The website, Keep Moving Images, aims to give user-friendly, interpretative, advice to artists and galleries working with moving images. Within this larger purpose, it seeks to address both the conceptual decisions and rationale beyond preserving work, and the more straightforward technical advice for the daily care of specific mediums.
As you orientate your self within the site, you may find that you will want to cross-reference between the medium specific information and the conceptual and more general 'issues to consider'. There are links in place to help you do this.
While Keep Moving Images considers the practical information obtained from film and video archival experience and procedure, it aims to encourage the perception of moving image work as a conservator would regard a painting: with a specificity to the individual piece of art and its creator. It also places this advice and procedure within the realistic parameters for artists, and galleries too, that don't have preservation purpose built environments and other specialist equipment.
With practical information addressing decisions made at the many stages of the life of a piece, the site aims to help both artists with finished work, and for those in the process. All this information and advice is supported by eight illustrative case studies.
